🪔 What is Second Brain?

Building a Second Brain is a methodology for saving and systematically reminding us of the ideas, inspirations, insights, and connections we’ve gained through our experience. It provides a clear, actionable path to creating a “Second Brain” – an external, centralized, digital repository for the things you learn and the resources from which they come. A Second Brain ultimately expands our memory and our intellect using modern tools of technology.

🌻 Write it down so we will not forget , every time you write it down it kind of like you are building block of understanding and get closer to the what you have learnt. Moreover, we can become a creator instead of consumer by generate your idea liked a production system then sharing to other people who are interested in the same spot.

🎲 Note is a piece of content :

  • Interpreted through your lens : This is state of what you have learnt from the lesson, book or experience then explain it through your visions.
  • Curated according to your taste : This is state of selecting what you feel that those context can adapt with your lifestyle and can be share to other people to adapt it as well.
  • Translate into your own words : This is state of expressing what you have learnt from the context and make it easy to understand for yourself. It would be better that if it can share to other people.
  • Drawn from your life experience : This is state of applying from your experience, make it fit to your lifestyle.
  • Store in a secure place : The save place to keep your own knowledge and easy to looking for it.

🎯CODE method

Capture : First step to build second brain by go through what you have learnt with the open-ended Questions such as how to become a better person ? , why are you here to learn this class ? , what the person you will be in the next 5-10 years.

Organize : How to manage data from the capture step, what is your perspective with content. PARA method is included in this step.

🌻 The PARA method was included in Organize method.
PARA based on Project , Areas , Resources , Archive
those 4 categorized to encompass all the information in you life.

📕 Project : Short-term efforts in your work or the certain goal that you working on this step have their own deadline.
📙 Areas : Long-term responsibility, it kind of important part in your life that require ongoing attention more broadly.
📗 Resource (or research) : A range of topic that you’re interesting in and want to learn about and also can share to other people this is state.
📘 Archive : Everything of project that no longer active , paused project, previous reference etc. all can save it this folder.

🎲 PARA set up

📌 Create archive to keep all document that you think like “ this project is frozen for long time” or reference information that will be used in the future. Some people they call this folder “COLD STORANGE” but you need to ensure that once you look back to it again in the future that will have no worry about it in the meantime. (no massy files)

📌 Create Project to keep to the short-term project with clear end goal, we will call “HOT STORANGE”

📌 Create additional folder (if any) but need to make you it necessary to create it (no empty folder).

    The areas and resource folders are not mandatory to create until you make sure that you have any long-term responsibilities project or any research that you’re interesting in.

    💡 Where to put a piece of information ?

    Begin with the question that
    📖 “ Will that help you move a current project or goal forward ? “
    If YES so move it into Project folder. (This is for the short term.)
    If NO go to next question
    📖 “Will this help you an area of responsibilities ?”
    If YES so move it into Areas folder. (This is for long term and personal.)
    If NO go to next question
    📖 “ Will this support what’s you are interesting in ?”
    If YES so move it into Resources folder. (This is the area for sharing
    If NO put it it “Archive or delete it”.

    🌻 How is distinguish between Project and Areas ? Project is the goal that you will enable to complete it with the timeframe (or deadline). Areas is a standard to maintain overtime such a join duty, personal life , health etc. The project kind of one-time efforts but areas are ongoing responsibilities. For example

    • Finishing the Data bootcamp is project which falls under area of future careers.
    • Publishing a book is a project which falls under the areas of author.

    Distill : Sort of the main idea of topic , essential knowledge in your own lens/perspective and write it down in your own words.

    Distillation is at the very heart of all effective communication.

    1. Capture note or context that you’re interesting in.
    2. Bold main whole context then highlight the usable material which directly to the main of topic that you’re looking for.
    3. Writing the summary of the topic in your own language by short-note. It’s easy to understand the whole context.

    • Row is categorize Note : Column or Field in Notion is called “PROPERTY”
    • Template : There was variety of template that you can use such as building knowledge base, wiki, project management , tracking etc.
